The acronym KAUST stands for King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and KAUST offers renowned graduate programs for prospective applicants. Due to KAUST Scholarships, many students receive their education for free!


Eligibility Requirements / Values

If you are admitted to King Abdullah University, you automatically receive the benefits of the KAUST Fellowship; however, in order to get admitted, you need to submit your admissions application. Basically, the eligibility requirements of the KAUST Scholarship are the application requirements to get into King Abdullah University.

Application Requirements

  • Have a Minimum TOEFL Score of 79 on the IBT (Internet Based Test) OR at least 6.0 on the IELTS*
  • Submit a Transcript of Previously Attended Institutions
  • Submit Three Letters of Recommendation

GRE Test Scores are not required, but KAUST Admissions strongly encourage prospective applicants to take the GRE General Test since the scores enhance your graduate application.

*If the applicant received a degree from an accredited institution in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand, you are not required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score.

IDB – KAUST Joint PhD Scholarship

To finish on a positive note, I’m going to let you in on another important scholarship. Sponsored by KAUST and Islamic Development Bank (IDB), the Joint PhD Scholarship Program awards full-ride scholarships to five eligible applicants.

This is a fully-funded program only offered to citizens of IDB member countries, and it is renewable for four-years during your PhD studies. In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must meet all the listed requirements down below.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a Citizen of an IDB Member Country
  • Be Less Than 35 Years of Age
  • Be in a Full-Time Employment in an Academic, Research, or Development Institute in Your Home Country*
  • Meet the Eligibility Requirements of IDB Merit Scholarship Program**
  • Receive an Offer of Admissions at One of KAUST PhD Programs

*In addition to being employed by an institute, you also need to be nominated by your institute, which will be all included in your application.

I am not 100% sure that the IDB Merit Scholarship Program refers to the IDB Scholarship for PhD and Post-Doctoral Research Program.
