Known as Virginia Tech for short, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is a public research university that is located in Blacksburg, Virginia. Focusing on diverse fields of technology, Virginia Tech uses real-life experiments and collaborations between fellow students to teach engineering concepts and machine mechanics.

Having over 100 undergraduate programs and even more graduate programs, Virginia Tech is composed of many colleges and one graduate school. Even though it has a large student body, the student-faculty ratio is relatively low at Virginia Tech.

A. Virginia Tech Presidential Scholarships Initiative

In order to help Virginia Residents with their college education, Virginia Tech established this need-based program for academically talented students. Nearly 100 Virginia Residents will be awarded this scholarship, the Presidential Scholars will receive the scholarships for the full four years.

Also, Virginia Tech can offer a high amount of awards to Virginia Residents since the tuition fees for Virginia Residents are lower than the tuition rates for Non-Residents of Virginia. For all scholarships, funding is limited so be sure to apply for this scholarship as soon as you can!

  • Show Outstanding Academic Achievements

*Federal Pell Grant is a need-based aid that is given based on the student’s demonstrated financial need. In order for the federal government to select the right applicants, FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a required form that needs to fill out.

**First-Generation students refer to applicants who are the first in their families to receive a college education.

2. VT Honors College Scholarships

In order to challenge academically talented students and overachievers, Virginia Tech has established several Honors Programs that offer full-ride scholarships. If you are interested in these high responsibilities, high reward scholarships, please look at the scholarship list down below.


A. VT Calhoun Discovery Program

Even though Calhoun Program is a full-ride scholarship, there is no separate application required for this program except for the undergraduate admissions application. This is not for a specific group of people, but this VT scholarship program covers a broad range of subjects: engineering, science, business, design, arts, humanities, and policy.

International students are not eligible for need-based aids offered by Virginia Tech since the funding comes from the federal government which can be only given to US Citizens, Permanent Residents, or Eligible Non-Citizens.
