Types of Scholarships Offered by Missouri University of Science and Technology
Some scholarships offered by Missouri S&T are merit-based, but others are need-based. In addition, there are scholarships that are a combination of both merit and need-based.
1. Merit-Based Scholarships
The merit-based scholarships are awarded based on your academic achievements and sometimes extracurricular activities.
A. Freshmen Merit-Based Scholarships
The merit-based scholarships for incoming freshmen do not require a separate application. In order to apply, just apply for admissions, and you will be automatically considered for this scholarship.
Since there are different tuition fees between Missouri Residents and Non-Residents, the scholarship value varies for each group. For Missouri Residents, this merit-based scholarship ranges from $2,500 ~ $6,500, but for Non-Residents, the scholarship value ranges from $6,000 ~ $14,000.
Based on your cumulative high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores, this scholarship awards a high amount of money to those students who have high academic achievements. Also, these merit-based scholarships are only available to US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

B. Transfer Merit-Based Scholarship
Available to only US Citizens or Permanent Residents, this merit-based scholarship is only for transfer students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree.
Same as the previous one, there is a difference between scholarships for in-state students and out-of-state students. For Missouri Residents, this award ranges from $500 ~ $3,000 per year, and the minimum requirement is to have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.75. For Non-Residents of Missouri, this award values from $1,000 ~ $5,000 year, and the minimum requirement is the same as the Missouri Residents.
Since this is a merit-based scholarship, getting the minimum GPA is not the goal because the scholarship amount increases as you have higher academic achievements.

2. Chancellor’s Scholarship
Awarding $12,000 per year for four years, this scholarship offered by Missouri S&T is a highly competitive scholarship that is given to a limited number of incoming students. Offered by the Chancellor of Missouri University of Science and Technology, this scholarship is awarded to applicants who meet the following requirements:
- Rank in the top 10% on your high school graduating class OR have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.75
- Scored at least 31 on ACT OR 1390 on SAT
- Be a Missouri Resident
- Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Be applying for the scholarship in the year when you are high school senior (For example, if you are graduating at spring of 2019, you need to apply at fall of 2018 for the Chancellor’s Scholarship)
Because this scholarship is highly competitive, the applicant is not automatically considered by just applying for admissions. To be considered for Missouri S&T Chancellor’s Scholarship, the applicant must submit a separate application with an essay.
Based on the essay, the Missouri S&T will pick the finalists, and the finalists will be invited for an interview at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

3. Distinguished Scholars Award
This scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship awarded by Missouri S&T. Awarding $30,000 per year, the Distinguished Scholars Award is given to applicants who meet the following requirements:
- Be an incoming freshmen
- Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Be a Non-Resident of Missouri
- Have maintained a high school GPA of at least 3.75
- Scored at least 29 on ACT OR 1330 on SAT
- Be applying for the scholarship in the year when you are high school senior (For example, if you are graduating at spring of 2019, you need to apply at fall of 2018 for the Chancellor’s Scholarship)
Just like the Chancellor’s Scholarship, this scholarship offered by Missouri University of Science and Technology is a competitive scholarship. After applying for Missouri S&T Admissions, the applicant must separately apply for the Distinguished Scholars Award.

4. Diversity Scholarship
This scholarship offered by Missouri S&T is not named that way to award students from diverse backgrounds, but Diversity Scholarship was named to award incoming students with diverse types of scholarships.
For incoming freshmen, the minimum requirement for Diversity Scholarship is to have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.75. The incoming freshmen separate into two groups, which are Missouri Residents and Non-Residents of Missouri.
As the post talked about earlier, the tuition rates between these groups differ since the state university offers low tuition to students who are from that state. Because of this tuition difference, the scholarship award for Missouri Residents ranges from $2,000 ~ $3,000 per year while the scholarship for Non-Residents of Missouri values from $2,000 ~ $10,000 per year.
Since this is a merit-based scholarship, students do not have to apply separately. After applying for admissions, the Missouri University of Science and Technology will offer this scholarship to students who meet the eligibility requirement.
In addition to incoming freshmen, transfer students are also considered for this scholarship. The minimum requirement for transfer students is to have a cumulative high school GPA of 2.75, and the scholarship awards from $1,000 ~ $4,000 per year.

5. Departmental Scholarship
Since this scholarship is awarded by different departments, the eligible applicants are only the students admitted to Missouri University of Science and Technology.

6. Miner Section Scholarship
Funded by the alumni of Missouri S&T, the Miner Section Program awards students $1,000 per year. To be considered for this scholarship, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

- Be studying for their first undergraduate degree
- Be already admitted to Missouri University of Science and Technology

7. Bright Flight Scholarship
Funded by the state of Missouri, the Bright Flight Scholarship Program awards up to $3,000 per year. Given by the Missouri Department of Higher Education (MDHE), this scholarship is given to students who meet the following requirements:
- Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Be a Missouri Resident
- Scored on ACT OR SAT in either
- Top 3% of all Missouri students taking those tests OR
- Top 4th or 5th percentiles of all Missouri students taking those tests
- Be accepted at one of the Missouri Participating Schools
- Be applying for your first undergraduate degree
