Conclusion: More Financial Aid!

In addition to scholarships, Lamar University offers more financial aid options to undergraduate students. First, Lamar University offers grants, which are similar to scholarships, and grants do not have to be repaid after being awarded. On the other hand, some grants such as the TEACH Grant require the grant recipient to fulfill a service requirement in return for the money.

For students who are interested in applying for a grant, please make sure that you can fulfill your service requirement before applying for grants such as the TEACH Grant. If you do fulfill your service requirement, you do not have to repay the money back; however, if you fail to meet your service obligations, the grant turns into a loan. In other words, be careful!

Second, the loan is another financial aid option offered by Lamar University, and, as you saw above, loans are different than scholarships or grants. While scholarships and grants do not need to be repaid, loans are money that needs to be paid back.

Personally, I would not recommend this option since it is not good to get into debt in the first place; however, if your other financial options are exhausted, this might be your last resort. If you are interested in loans, you need to know that there are two types of loans, and they are loans with interest and without interest.

Also, loans have many guidelines and specific details that tend to go unnoticed by some parents and students, so make sure to read each requirement carefully and reread if you don’t understand the terms.

Third, another option is work-study, which is studying full-time while working part-time. This might be a good idea for students who are in need of more money or just wanting a monthly allowance for personal expenses. Lamar University provides many work opportunities within its department to incoming students, so make sure to apply as early as you can since positions are limited.
