Located in the beautiful state of Oregon, the UO (University of Oregon) is a number one public university in the state of Oregon, and it is especially known for its education and its retention rates. For students who might not know, retention rates are how many freshmen come and return again for their sophomore year.
Because of its large student body, the University of Oregon could have decreased its spending cost by hiring the low amount of teachers, but that is not the case here. Even though UO has a large student body, it is a relatively small student to teach ratio, which means students can interact with their classmates and their professor easily.
In addition to its top-tier education, the University of Oregon is known for its research in a variety of fields, and the UO’s graduates are released into the world with real-life experiences by spending time in the University of Oregon’s research labs.

Types of Scholarships Offered by University of Oregon
When talking about the types of scholarships, the University of Oregon’s scholarships are not exceptions, and UO offers the same type of scholarships (merit-based/need-based) that are offered by many other US universities. 1. Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen
In addition to merit-based and need-based scholarships, this section divides further into scholarships for in-state residents and out-of-state residents. Previously, I have separated this scholarship section into two, but I will just include the state residency in the eligibility requirements for this post. A. University of Oregon’s Stamps Scholarship
Stamps Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships offered by University of Oregon, and, as I have said before, there are two types of scholarships, which are in-state and out-of-state scholarships. The reason that scholarships are divided into these two types is the tuition difference.
In order to encourage Oregon residents to attend one of their home universities, University of Oregon has lowered the tuition rates for in-state residents while upping the cost for out-of-state residents. Because of this tuition difference, UO offers high-value scholarships to out-of-state residents while offering low-value or same scholarships to in-state residents.

- Apply a Separate Scholarship Application
- Maintained a Cumulative High School GPA of at least 3.85
- Scored at least 1300 on the SAT OR 28 on ACT
- Demonstrate the Following Qualities*
*Leadership, Perseverance, Service, and Innovation. These qualities will be shown through your admissions application, and, if you do demonstrate these qualities, you are ready to go!

While most merit-based scholarships are automatic, competitive scholarships require an additional scholarship application which needs academic records, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, and a personal essay. 2. Scholarships for Current / Transfers
University of Oregon has not forgotten about current or transfer students; however, compared to incoming freshmen, the scholarship amount is considerably lower in value. Since UO offers low-value scholarships for current and transfer students, University of Oregon encourages prospective students to apply for external scholarships to increase their chances of winning a scholarship.
In addition to scholarships for transfer students, there is a scholarship section for current students called departmental scholarships. University of Oregon is comprised of many department and colleges that house a variety of majors and minors. 3. Scholarships for Graduates / Law Students
Similar to current or transfer students, the scholarships for graduates and law students have low amounts. The following are several options that are offered to this group of students: UO Scholarships, Departmental Scholarships, Interdisciplinary Scholarships, and External Scholarships.
Since funding for graduate studies is limited due to undergraduate funding, it is best for prospective students to apply for financial aid as soon as possible. 4. Scholarships for International Students
To promote diversity within the college campus, University of Oregon offers many scholarships for international students, and, as same as before, the scholarship funding for international students is limited. Personally, I would strongly encourage you to apply for external scholarships as well as UO scholarships.

Conclusion: US Citizen / Permanent Residents?
In addition to the University of Oregon Scholarships, need-based aids are available to US Citizens or Permanent Residents. International students are not eligible for need-based aid since it is funded by the US federal government, and these financial aids are only given to citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
For students who are still in need of financial resources, they can apply for need-based aid by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Students Aid). In order for the federal government to award need-based grants, the prospective applicant needs to fill out this financial aid form to demonstrated significant financial need.
