“If you choose to attend Gonzaga University, we guarantee your Gonzaga-funded scholarships and grants will not decrease if you maintain good academic standing, as defined in the Gonzaga catalog, during your continuous full-time four-year enrollment.”
Types of Scholarships Offered by Gonzaga University
Looking at Gonzaga Guarantee, there is one problem. In order to retain the scholarship, you have to get a scholarship in the first place! Pay attention to the information down below, and make sure you fit the eligibility requirements before applying.
1. Merit Scholarship
To be considered for a merit scholarship, the student does not have to fill out a separate application, but the applicant just needs to apply for admissions to be automatically considered for merit scholarships.
There are many things that the scholarship committee looks for in the application, and the scholarship factors are the following: difficulty of curriculum, cumulative GPA (high school for incoming freshmen/ college or community college for transfer students), SAT or ACT scores, extracurricular activities, recommendations, quality of the essay, and an interview (optional but recommended).
A. Merit Scholarships for First-Year Students
Awarding from $9,000 ~ $22,000 per year, the First-Year Scholarships amount differs based on the scholarship factors above. Since there are other factors that go in addition to academic achievements, it is hard to say whether you will get high scholarship money based on your academic achievements.
However, make sure you do well in high school and score well on your standardized tests since the academic factors matter!
B. Merit Scholarship for Transfer Students
This award ranges from $11,000 to $21,000 per year; however, there are guarantee periods for a merit scholarship for transfer students. For students that are transferring between 31-59 credits, the merit scholarship is guaranteed for a maximum of 6 semesters; however, for students that are transferring between 60+ credits, the merit scholarship is guaranteed for a maximum of 4 semesters.
2. Gonzaga Scholarships for Freshmen
Unlike the merit scholarship, the Gonzaga Scholarships for Freshmen require a separate application in addition to the admissions application. Make sure to look at the application deadline for each scholarship since some scholarships might be closed.
A. Joseph M. Cataldo, S.J. Scholarships
Offered only to graduates of Catholic high school, the applicant must meet the following requirements to get this $5,000 per year award:
- Have at least an unweighted GPA of 3.75
- Meet one of the following:
- Scored at least 1310 on SAT
- Scored at least 28 on the ACT
- Complete 10 Honors, AP, IB, or Cambridge Courses during high school

B. Gonzaga Leaders Scholarship
This scholarship is for students who show significant academic achievements and involvement in extracurricular activities, and it awards $5,000 per year. To be considered for this scholarship, the students must meet the following:
- Have at least 3.5 on cumulative unweighted GPA
- Meet one of the following:
- Scored at least 1310 on SAT
- Scored at least 28 on the ACT
- Complete 10 Honors, AP, IB, or Cambridge Courses

C. Charlotte Y. Martin Scholarship
Awarding only to students from Montana, this scholarship awards $5,000 per year, and the applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Have at least 3.5 unweighted GPA
- Be a high school graduate from Montana

D. Charlotte Y. Martin Native American Scholarship
Awarding students who are enrolled in or descends from a federal and/or state-recognized tribe, this scholarship awards $5,000 per year to the applicant that meets the following requirements:
- Have at least 3.1 unweighted GPA
- If a transfer student, Have at least 3.0 unweighted GPA

E. Act Six Scholarship – For students from Tacoma, Seattle or Spokane

3. Gonzaga Scholarships for Freshmen / Transfer Students
A. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)
Covering up to full tuition and a living stipend, the ROTC Scholarship is for students who are interested in military and leadership training.

B. Gonzaga Alumni Scholarships
Awarding up to $2,500 ~$15,000 per year, the Gonzaga Alumni Scholarship awards students who meet the following requirements:
- Must be a child, grandchild or sibling of a Gonzaga Alumnus
- Only applicable to students who are applying for an undergraduate degree

Regardless of whether you have financial aid or not, Gonzaga University encourages students to apply for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Since you don’t know which scholarship or grant that you are eligible for, it is best for students to apply for FAFSA as soon as the application opens!
Submitting the FAFSA will allow funding from the U.S. Government, from the Washington State, and from Gonzaga University.
