1. State Scholarships
The state scholarships are only for South Carolina residents, who need to meet the eligibility requirements in order to be considered.
NOTE: You can only receive one of the following three scholarships. For example, if you receive a Palmetto Fellows Scholarships, you cannot receive the LIFE or HOPE scholarships.
A. South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship
The South Carolina Palmetto Fellows Scholarship awards $6,700 for the first year and awards $7,500 for the next three years. In addition, recipients of the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship can receive an additional $2,500 Enhancements.
The eligibility requirements of this scholarship are the following:
- Must be a high school senior with at least a GPA of 3.5
- Currently ranked in the top 6% of the class
- Scored at least 1200 on SAT or 27 on the ACT
EITHER / OR
- Must be a high school senior with a GPA of 4.0
- Class rank does not matter
- Scored at least 1400 on SAT or 32 on the ACT
For students who meet the following requirements, they need to contact their guidance counselors for information concerning the nomination. Only students that are nominated and awarded by Commission on Higher Education will receive the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship.

B. South Carolina LIFE Scholarship
The LIFE Scholarship awards $5,000 per year for four years, and, after their first year, the recipients can receive $2,500 LIFE Enhancement Scholarship.
The eligibility requirements are the following:
- Be a United States Citizen or a U.S. Legal Permanent Resident
- Be a full-time undergraduate students at College of Charleston
- Must not be in debt (See specifics at the site down below)
- Must not have criminal record (See specifics below)

C. South Carolina HOPE Scholarship
The HOPE Scholarship awards $2,800 per year for only one year. The applicant must meet the following requirements:
- Be an incoming freshman who is enrolled full-time
- Have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Additional requirements concerning residency and criminal records

2. Institutional Scholarships
This type of scholarship is a merit-based scholarship, and it does not require a separate application. You just have to apply for admissions, and the College of Charleston will automatically consider the applicants who fit the eligibility requirements.
A. Colonial Scholarships
Known as the College of Charleston’s most prestigious scholarship, the Colonial Scholarship is only awarded to four students each year. This scholarship award is given to the highest qualified student of the freshmen class, and this scholarship is based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and interviews.
Since this scholarship is renewable during your whole undergraduate program, you must meet the continuing eligibility requirement to maintain this scholarship.
