1. CSUN Scholarships

California State University Northridge offers an assorted list of merit-based and need-based scholarships for incoming students. For merit-based, the applicant needs to apply for CSUN admissions first, and then fill out a separate scholarship application if required.

For need-based, the prospective applicant needs to file for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) in order to show his demonstrated financial need. Since the federal government and the CSUN needs a way to determine your demonstrated financial need, all applicants who are interested in need-based aid are encouraged to fill out the FAFSA.

A. CSUN Honors at Entrance Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Have Applied and Been Admitted into CSUN Admissions
  • Been Accepted to CSUN Honors Program
  • Applied for FAFSA
  • Show Demonstrated Financial Need

Scholarship Value: Varies Student by Student

Since this is the merit-based that is combined with need-based requirements, the Honors at Entrance Scholarship is funded by an anonymous donor so the amount is not known, but it is known to be a generous amount for each student.


B. CSUN Dreamer Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Have an AB 540, DACA or Other Undocumented Status
  • Been Admitted to CSUN Undergraduate Admission
  • Maintained a Cumulative GPA of At Least 2.5
  • Completed the Online Scholarship Application

Scholarship Values: $1,250 ~ $12,500 Per Year

C. CSUN Matador Scholarship Program

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Been Admitted to California State University Northridge
  • Applied Separately to the Scholarship Application*
  • Filed for the FAFSA
  • Maintained a Cumulative GPA of At Least 3.0**
  • Be a First-Time Student***

*The specifics regarding the scholarship application are listed under the section for Matador Scholarship Program.

**This cumulative GPA applies only to incoming freshmen, transfer students, and current students; however, for graduate students, the cumulative GPA needs to be at least 3.5

***Be applying for his first undergraduate or master’s degree.

Scholarship Value: $250 ~ $8,000 Per Year

D. CSUN Outstanding Graduating Veteran Award

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be Admitted into CSUN
  • Currently or Has Formerly Been on Active Duty as a Member of the US Armed Forces or the Reserve or National Guard
  • Applied for a Separate Scholarship Application

Funded by the California State University Foundation, these scholarships are awarded by generous donors that comprise the CSU Foundation.
