Idaho Scholarships

Located in Idaho’s largest city, Boise State University is situated near the Snake River. In addition to the great natural landscape, there are many entertainment options just a quick walk away. Offering fun sports such as skiing, hiking, and rock climbing, the Boise State University offers a great place of refuge and fun to its incoming students.

Even though it is a doctoral research institution, the Boise State offers over 200 bachelor’s and master’s program, and approximately 10 doctoral programs. Always building and remodeling, the Boise State University accommodates state-of-the-art research facilities and high-tech buildings for many departments.


Types of Scholarships Offered by Boise State

To encourage students from its state, the Boise State offers low tuition to Idaho Residents while increasing the costs for out-of-state students. Because of this difference, the scholarship amount does differ since the scholarship value is low for Idaho Residents and high for Non-Residents of Idaho.

1. Scholarships for Idaho Residents (Freshmen)

The academic scholarship offered by Boise State is based on merit and sometimes on financial need. Presidential, Dean’s, and True Blue Promise are automatic scholarships, which means you do not have to separately apply for these scholarships; however, the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship is a competitive scholarship, which means a separate application is required in addition to your admissions application.

A. Presidential Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Maintained a Cumulative Unweighted High School GPA of at least 3.90
  • Scored at least 28 on ACT OR 1300 on SAT

Scholarship Value: $5,000 per year


B. Idaho Opportunity

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be first-time freshmen (Pursuing your first undergraduate degree)
  • Maintained a Cumulative Unweighted High School GPA of at least 2.7
  • Be a graduate of Idaho high school or have GED from Idaho
  • Submit the Scholarship Application for Idaho Opportunity
  • Complete FAFSA

Scholarship Value: $3,500 per year


C. Dean’s Scholarships

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Maintained a Cumulative Unweighted High School GPA of at least 3.85
  • Scored at least 26 on ACT OR 1230 on SAT

Scholarship Value: $3,000 per year


D. True Blue Promise

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Maintained a Cumulative Unweighted High School GPA of at least 3.30
  • Scored at least 24 on ACT OR 1160 on SAT
  • Be Eligible for Federal Pell Grant*

*Applicant must submit FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) before the application deadline AND be Pell Grant Eligible based on FAFSA.

Scholarship Value: $2,000 per year

E. Presidential Transfer Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Maintained a Cumulative College GPA of at least 3.8
  • Earned at least 14 credits after high school

Scholarship Value: $5,000 per year


F. Dean’s Transfer Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Maintained a Cumulative College GPA of at least 3.70
  • Earned at least 14 credits after high school

Scholarship Value: $3,000 per year

2. Scholarships for Non-Residents of Idaho

These scholarships are automatic scholarships, which do not require a separate application; however, there are certain conditions that make an applicant ineligible so pay attention when you are reading the additional scholarship requirements.

A. Gem Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Maintained a Cumulative Unweighted High School GPA of at least 3.90
  • Scored 26 on ACT OR 1230 on SAT

Scholarship Value: $15,000 per year


B. WUE Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Maintained a Cumulative Unweighted High School GPA of at least 3.20
  • Scored at least 21 on ACT OR 1060 on SAT
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Be a Permanent Resident of one of the states*

*Eligible states / US territories are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, Guam, and Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands.

Scholarship Value: $12,000 per year


C. Treasure Scholarship

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Maintained a Cumulative Unweighted High School GPA of at least 3.0
  • Scored at least 19 on ACT OR 990 on SAT

Scholarship Value: $7,000 per year

3. Scholarships by Departments / Colleges

Because of their different departments and college located within Boise State, scholarships are given out to students who are interested in a particular major or a minor. Even in these large departments, there is a variety of programs to choose from, so make sure that you click on your intended major to see the scholarships available to you!

4. Endowed Scholarships

Funded by generous donors, the endowed scholarships of Boise State are competitive scholarships, which require a separate application. These scholarships are separated into two categories: Presidential and Dean’s Endowed Scholarships

The Presidential Scholarships covers full-tuition while the Dean’s Scholarships cover half tuition. Since there are many different departments and colleges that offer these endowed scholarships, make sure to check the requirements to see if you are eligible for Boise State Endowed Scholarships.
